I live streamed this a little bit last night during our open studio / open mic night. There were some questions about it so here is a little follow up.
Cara Cara oranges are a special variety with a deep red flesh and sweet taste for citrus. Bunnies like citrus, but really shouldn't eat a lot. My house ran it paintings are about staying home and staying safe, so this one is more about not having too much of a good thing.
Ironic because this is one of my larger pieces at 42” x 42”. I'm also indulging in a very textured surface (up cycled canvas drop cloth with collage.) I'm also primarily having fun with color and playing with matt and glossy finishes.
There is not yet any pure white in this painting, even the base of fiber paste in places is tinted with a little Titian buff. I won't add any pure white until maybe the last passage of then.
The “blacks” are actually a range of blues and a mars black and Black 3.0 which is super matt finish. I'm still working on using the contrast in finish and opacity to render the fur, and that will take a little while. All the rest of the color is informed by the colors of the collaged orange crate label just because I found i likes the play of the salmon pink with the red inside the oranges and primary blue and neon green. All of those colors are reflected somewhere in the white parts of the bunny.
Yes,.I'm mostly having a good time with my materials here, but this is what I need from my practice right now. Of course,.I have a bunch of more “serious” things in progress, but this is the one that is holding my attention for now just to lift my spirits.
